Utah fossil trilobites, Wyoming fossil fish, petrified wood, and dinosaur coprolite ( otherwise known as petrified dino poop) are usually all available in Ana’s Online Catalog Store. These items make a great gift, souvenir, or home décor item. The trilobite specimens are mostly of the species ’Elrathia Kingii’ and they are found in the 500 million year old Cambrian geologic layer found in the House Mountain Range of the West Desert. The fossil fish are found in quarries in southwestern Wyoming near the little town of Kemmerer. The majority of the fish fossil were of the species ’Knightia Eoceana’ from an ancient fresh-water lake. The geologic layer which has most of these fossils is called the ’Green River Formation’.
Ana’s unique Turitella snail specimans are also found in southwestern Wyoming and come in black or brown hard agate matrix. The rough dinosaur coprolite originally comes from a Jurassic layer called the Morrison formation that occurs mostly in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. It is actually petrified dinosaur dung which is then penetrated by different coloring minerals that can make a very beautiful and unique specimen. These specimens are made of micro-crystalline quartz which has a mohs hardness of 7 which is very hard. Therefore, diamond tools must be used to cut and polish these specimens which take a very fine polish and last forever. Much of this material is becoming increasingly rare. This material has been collected for many years by rock hounds or miners and is available in rough form at Rock Trade Shows or old collector estates. Ana takes this petrified rough material and cuts and polishes it in her work shop. The petrified wood comes from several layers including the Jurassic and Chinle Triassic layers of Western United States. It also is very hard and made of micro-crystalline quartz that has replaced the organic cell structure of the original wood. Ana Maria cuts and polished the original rough material in her workshop. |
